      Benefits of Music Education

OUR FACULTY & STAFF

Our teachers are friendly, dedicated, and experienced, professional musicians and educators that have direct performing and teaching skills.

We now have over 25 music teachers, university trained and many have ongoing expertise.

Our teachers have a true passion for all kinds of music ranging from Classical, Jazz, and Opera to Hip-Hop, R&B, Pop, and Rock.

One of the many advantages of being in our school environment is that we take the time to carefully match each student with a faculty member whose teaching style best compliments each student by personality, ability, goals, and schedule, leading to a better music lesson experience.

Our students benefit from seeing our faculty's love for the art and from our personal attention to their individual needs.

In addition to our faculty, another advantage of our school is that we have a friendly staff at the School Office (Front desk) available to assist you during all teaching hours.

HISTORY

Charlotte Music School was founded by the Director Helen Foessett. She started piano lessons at the age of 4. At the age of 5, she was admitted into the Conservatory of Music Haidee French-American in Brazil, and graduated after 13 years of studies with High Honors. Inspired by her parents, she started teaching at age of 15.

She continued her teaching and perfecting her studies in the US and Europe. She graduated with a B.A. Degree and initiated her M.A. Degree in Music Education at the University of Central Florida, Orlando, FL. There she was a pupil of Dr. Gary Wolf and Mr. Laurent Boukobza, both past and present renowned Piano Directors and Chair at the UCF.

During her successful 20 plus years of teaching at her home, Helen always maintained large successful piano studios in Melbourne, Orlando, and Charlotte. Within 6 months of moving to Charlotte, Helen had 60+ students and a waiting list. It was clear that The University area of Charlotte needed more opportunities for quality music instruction and therefore created Charlotte Music School. She attributes this success to her proven teaching methods for a well-balanced music education, and her philosophy, which has expanded to the school:

"It is not enough to be a qualified music teacher, we aim to inspire our students and personally help each one discover and grow their own talent in a suitable environment for learning."

Many of the qualities that made Helen's piano studio successful continue at the school: Incentive Programs, Music Technology Lab, professional recitals, and innovative tools that foster an exciting wholesome music education.

Helen and her husband enjoy living in Charlotte with their son. All together they play the piano, guitar, harmonica, drums, and sing.

"We love the family, multi-culture, and community environment of the University Area. We chose to live here and we call it home."
